The challenge

Launch Credit Union was chartered in April of 1963 and is focused on providing quality financial products and exceptional service to its members. 

Over the last 60 years, Launch Credit Union has invested in new tools and technology to stay up to date with the services, experiences, and financial products its members expect. When the credit union realized that potential new members were abandoning new accounts due to a slow and cumbersome onboarding process, they turned to Clutch and Alloy to safely streamline their member experience. 

Prior to using Clutch and Alloy, Launch Credit Union’s onboarding processes relied on an ID scan and a selfie for authentication. After implementing Clutch’s digital application platform, which is seamlessly integrated with Alloy for advanced fraud detection and identity verification, Launch transformed its onboarding process to be fast for legitimate applicants while keeping bad actors out of its system.

A proactive approach to fraud prevention 

One of the key benefits of implementing Alloy’s identity and fraud prevention platform as part of the integration with Clutch is that Launch Credit Union is able to respond to fraud threats without impacting growth channels. 

As an example, during a recent attempted fraud attack, the Launch team saw a massive spike in fraudulent applications coming into the credit union. The team had visibility within the Alloy platform, allowing them to see the pattern immediately. This visibility enabled Launch to quickly adapt its rules in Alloy in real-time during the attack. 

During the incident, 95% of fraud attempts were caught by Alloy and immediately auto-declined, while the remaining 5% were caught by step-up methods. Despite thousands of attempts, Launch Credit Union successfully prevented financial losses to bad actors and kept channels open for good customers, without added resources or costs.
