Hey, Vegetarians! Here’s The Meat-Free, White Castle Veggie Burger You Didn’t Ask For
Even though most vegetarians won’t admit it (or actually stay vegetarians forever), we all know what they really want. And that’s to eat at White Castle — among saving animals and ensuring all eggs are cage-free.
Well, here’s some good news that will have veggies cheering ‘til the cows come home (or go to the slaughterhouse…bad joke?): White Castle will nationally debut veggie sliders on the menu starting today, December 30.
Rejoice! Hallelujah! Praise the meat Gods!
Oh, but wait. Do vegetarians actually care about this?
Probably not. But for those looking to try their all-natural, meat-free hand at a White Castle wrapper, this is your chance. Each veggie slider is made up of a Dr. Praeger’s veggie patty, a popular vegetarian burger you can usually find in your grocery store’s frozen food section. Grub Street reports the veggie patty is full of vegetables like carrots, zucchini, peas, spinach and broccoli, among other healthy-for-you eats. The meat-free patty goes well with honey mustard, ranch or Sweet Thai sauce.
White castle reportedly tested out the sliders this past July at a limited number of venues. Apparently, people liked them enough to go nationwide!
White Castle isn’t the first fast food chain to offer vegetarian options. Chipotle has Sofritas, or burritos stuffed with a mixture of chipotle-braised tofu and veggies, and even Burger King has a Morning Star veggie burger.
But this is still a big deal, because it shows acceptance for veg-heads and presents healthier, alternative options for everyone.
However…it’s still not enough to get me to eat at White Castle. Sorry.
