Time Saving Tip: Cooking for the Freezer

Whenever meat goes on sale for a really good price, I stockpile enough at the sale price so that I don't have to buy more later at the regular price. Sometimes when this happens, I also cook some of the meat before putting it into the freezer. It makes for quicker meal times.

In this picture, I have one premixed meat loaf. It isn't cooked, it's just premixed because mixing meatloafs is one of things that deters me from making meatloaf. I just don't like mixing it up and touching the raw meat so much. It's already done now so all I have to do it thaw it in the fridge like I normally would meat and then bake it. Also, I have five containers of precooked ground beef. These can be used for meals such as tacos, spaghetti, burritos, lasagna, shepherd's pie, and more. Cooking all of the meat at one time also makes for easier clean up.

Last night I made 40 burritos using Amy's brown bag burritos recipe. I did change the recipe up a bit by adding more garlic, Adobo seasoning, more onions, and some paprika. This is my first time making these, so after I've had them I'll probably change the recipe a bit more according to our preferred taste. I'm thinking of adding some green chilies next time.  These will be great for weekends, lunches, Wednesday nights, etc.  I'll probably serve these with some homemade Mexican rice and toppings such as sour cream and salsa.

After making all of this, I had some uncooked ground chuck left so I froze the meat into five dinner portions and will use these for other meals.
