Taylor Swift Talks “Binge Food”…But Has A Healthy Attitude Towards Eating

By  |

taylor swift fridgeTaylor Swift recently spoke to Bon Appétit about cooking, eating, and what she keeps in her fridge: parmesan reggiano cheese, eggs, and “binge food like cookie dough and cinnamon rolls,” among other things.  It's awesome to see a young, popular female celebrity talk in a realistic way about food (And cooking! Apparently she does it herself!), although the word “binge” strikes me as a little problematic.

Taylor's not really one to speak out about her diet and fitness routine, at least not that I've ever seen.  She does seem to tweet a lot about food, things like doughnuts and cheeseburgers and cookies. For Bon Appetit's Back Of The Napkin series, Taylor revealed the foods that are always in her fridge:

Pretty delicious, right? I wouldn't mind coming over to her house for dinner (or breakfast, for that matter).

As I mentioned before, though, I'm questioning her use of the word “binge.” For me, the word has clearly unhealthy connotations, and is tied closely to disordered eating. But I don't think she's actually talking about bingeing, at least not in a “bingeing and purging” way; I think she's referring to unhealthy foods (cookie dough and cinnamon rolls certainly fall into that category) that she likes to eat a lot of on occasion. And there's not really anything wrong with that. Everything in moderation, Taylor!

Apparently, Taylor's also quite a cook. She says, “I love making buckwheat crepes with ham, Parmesan cheese, and a fried egg on top. It's my go-to breakfast.” She also occasionally makes her own pasta with a lemon-Parmesan sauce with pine nuts.  She makes chicken and dumplings, too! And waxes poetic about her mom's brisket, pot roast, and toffee with chocolate chips.

It's refreshing to hear a female celebrity talk about cooking meals that sound substantial and tasty as well as healthy. Granted, Taylor was talking to a food magazine, not a fitness publication, but I still give her some props. My eyes basically glaze over every time I read an article where a starlet talks about how much she loves eating “steamed veggies with chicken breasts or salmon, and one piece of dark chocolate once in awhile for dessert!” Not that that's not a valid and healthy choice, but it's just nice to hear something a little different from Taylor.
