Steak N’ Shake’s Seven Patty Steakburger A “Tower”ing Achievement In Fast Food Grossness

The latest in the fast food battle of gimmicky menu one-upmanship: Steak N' Shake's seven patty burger, served exclusively on their “late night” menu. Sigh.

This towering behemoth of a burger, alternating between “steak” patties and slices of American cheese, costs $7.77 and is a whopping 1570 calories. 1570 calories! That's the calorie allowance of an entire day! 980 of those calories are from fat. According to the Huffington Post, “…the 7×7 Steakburger also packs 98 grams of fat, 290 mg of cholesterol, 34 grams of carbohydrates and 4,490 mg of sodium.” Jesus. Who even wants to eat that much meat and that many calories in a single sitting? Yuck.

I wrote the other day about how Americans are eating less fast food, but does that mean restaurants have to just keep creating stranger and grosser meals to get people in the door? Sadly, all signs point to yes.

I guess it's better that this burger is only served “late night,” as maybe that would cut down on the number of people who have access to it. I don't know who the audience for the Steakburger actually is, though…stoners driving around in the middle of the night because they can't go back to their parents' houses with bloodshot eyes? Cops on night duty? Drunk frat boys who want a crazy eating challenge to prove their manhood? You tell me, y'all. Would you eat this burger? Would you even be able to share it amongst seven other people?
