Natural Beauty Product Review: Beecology Shampoo and Conditioner

By  |

What it is: Beecology Honey and Botanical Shampoo and Repair Your Hair Naturally Conditioner

What’s in it: Nettle extract, yarrow extract, chamomile extract, honey, wheat protein, Cupuaçu butter, avocado oil, hemp seed oil, and a few more things — see the whole list of ingredients on Beecology's website.

What’s not in it: Sodium laureth sulfate (SLES), sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), parabens, diethanolamine (DEA), triethanolamine (TEA), artificial colors,or synthetic fragrances.

What it feels like: The shampoo not quite as thick as traditional shampoos, and the conditioner has the exact consistency that you'd expect it to.

What it smells like: I was expecting an overpowering honey scent, and I was pleasantly surprised by the subtle fresh fragrance that these two products had. Think laundry hung outside to dry.

What it costs: Both the shampoo and conditioner are $13.00 for eight ounces — sold separately.

Where it’s made: Bedford Heights, OH

What we think: It's tough to find a decent SLS-free shampoo. Usually, there's no lather and you never feel like your actually cleaning your hair. But Beecology's lather was way better than most SLS-free shampoos that I've tried. After I had shampooed and conditioned, my hair was soft and untangled — though not particularly shiny. Beauty products that don't have an overpowering scent are few and far between, and the clean fragrance that accompanies these two is refreshing. If you're looking for an everyday SLS-free shampoo and conditioner, you'll have a good contender in Beecology.
