Video: Lindsey Vonn Crashes At World Championships, Gets Airlifted To Hospital For Knee Injury

On opening day of the Audi FIS Alpine Ski World Championships today, Lindsey Vonn was airlifted to a hospital after a terrible crash in the women's super-G. The U.S. Ski Team member was lifted off the course by helicopter, screaming in pain due to a severe knee injury, involving torn ligaments (ACL and MCL) and a broken bone in her lower right leg. She's expected to receive surgery for the injuries, but it's unclear whether she'll be able to recover in time to train for the 2014 Olympics.

The high-speed alpine skiing event in Schladming, Austria was delayed because of fog and weather on the course, and some are questioning whether the event should have gone forward at all. Her injury was caused when she lost balance while landing a jump; her ski came off and she tumbled down the mountain, as shown in the video below.

At 28, Vonn has already taken home gold at the Olympics, but some are already wondering if the injury could be a career ender.
