Regardless of how you feel about Kim Kardashian or Kanye West, it is not difficult to see how much criticism the pair have faced regarding Kim’s pregnancy. From criticizing her potential diet to calling her pregnant body fat almost immediately, from being angered by her gym habits to claiming she’s an unfit future mother for existing outside of her bedroom, the media has not stopped critiquing her motherhood. Now, though, I am deeply saddened by the way certain outlets have reported on a potential pregnancy scare Kardashian may have experienced.

The Huffington Post starts off their story with, “It’s not all glam and glow for pregnant Kim Kardashian.” Yeah, because everybody was under the assumption that all pregnant celebrities are self-luminescent bulbs of cheer. They go onto to say that she’s been traveling a lot, naming several locations, and that the “jet-set lifestyle she’s been leading has reportedly taken a toll on her body” by — wait for it — caused her to have a miscarriage scare.

According to the NY Post, she arrived at the hospital in tears. An ‘insider’ — who is clearly not a friend or decent human being — claimed it was because she was afraid she was having problems with her pregnancy. From the article:

“Kim’s not respecting her pregnancy,” says a source. “She’s running around, working out seven days a week. She’s working with two different trainers to control her weight, including Tracy Anderson and a pregnancy trainer.”

The source added that Kardashian — who’s been photographed obsessively working out while expecting — has been desperately trying to tame her figure amid public criticism that she’s ballooning.

“She’s scared that her ass is as big as a couch and is going south,” the source said. “But she is having a very rough pregnancy, and doctors have ordered her to slow down.”

First of all, this ‘source’ sounds like a terribly unkind person. Perhaps Kardashian wasn’t feeling healthy and simply feels like working out to gain strength for the upcoming birth. Maybe she’s doing pregnancy-specific exercises. Maybe she simply wants to work out, because that’s well within her right as a human being to do without being critiqued incessantly for doing so.

It is bad enough that the media snarks on her body constantly, calling her too fat or too curvy or too hungry (?!). While we here may not always love her, we don’t criticize her body. Why? Because it’s completely inappropriate to judge people on their physicality rather than their actions. And it’s ridiculous that the same media outlets that critique her figure are then going to claim her exercise routine is what could cause her to have a miscarriage.

Women who travel and work out are not necessarily going to have . Also, logistically, if she did not have a miscarriage and it was simply a scare (not that scares are ever simple), then her “jet set lifestyle” and workout routine are likely not actually causing any serious issues besides, perhaps, added stress and a lack of resting.

Millions of women each year have miscarriages for numerous reasons — most of which have nothing to do with how they’re living their lives. Nevertheless, people find reasons that somehow, it’s all their fault because if only they hadn’t done this or had done that, their pregnancies would have gone just fine. These types of hypercritical stories regarding women and their routines while pregnant are only going to damage the way the public views pregnant women and the problems they face even further.
