Homemade Pasta Recipe
Today marks the last day of National Pasta Week, but that doesn't mean we can't continue to enjoy it just the same! Pasta is one of my family's favorite things to eat (and one of my favorite things to make), whether it's with an easy tomato sauce, a cream sauce or just some olive oil, garlic and fresh chopped tomatoes.
Though it might be easier to just use dried, store-bought pasta from a box for your next meal, the taste and texture of fresh pasta is really worth the bit of time and effort it takes to make it.
The recipe below, which makes about three servings, doubles or triples easily.
Homemade Basic Pasta
1 egg, beaten
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons water
~ In a medium sized bowl, combine flour and salt.
~ Make a well in the flour, add the slightly beaten egg, and mix. Mixture should form a stiff dough. If needed, stir in 1 to 2 tablespoons water.
~ On a lightly floured surface, knead dough for about 3 to 4 minutes.
~ With a pasta machine or by hand roll dough out to desired thinness.
~ Use machine or knife to cut into strips of desired width.
~ To cook, place in lightly salted boiling water until the pasta floats. Drain and serve with desired sauce.
