The numbers don’t lie: Americans tend to hit the gym less when the weather gets bad. For those of us who walk to the gym (or prefer an outdoor workout), the early darkness, rain, snow, and general crumminess of fall and winter can definitely be a deterrent. But with the right layering solutions, you can get to and from the gym–or up and down the trail–with relative comfort and ease. And, as an added bonus, some of these pieces are cute enough to, say, wear straight from barre class to brunch.

There are a few keys to assembling a good arsenal of workout layering options. For example, keeping everything in a similar color scheme makes it easy to mix and match. It’s also worth it to pony up for some basics–like a really good, lightweight rain shell–because having those solid pieces takes some of the guesswork out of whether or not you’ll be warm enough, dry enough, etc.

Here are a couple of solutions for getting around before and after a workout that will have you feeling comfortable, confident–and yes, maybe even cute.
