Drinking Apple Cider Vinegar is Definitely Worth the Health Trend Hype

Apple cider vinegar is one of the most popular natural health products out there. The healthy elixir claims to hold endless health benefits for everything from your skin to your digestion. It's also said to give you a boost of energy. Even celebs like Hilary Duff swear by it. The shoots it straight every morning!
Since I don't like to be out of the loop, I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I decided to take notes from Hilary and tried downing apple cider vinegar every day for a week. For those of you who have been wondering if drinking the bitter vinegar would be worth it for the health benefits, I can tell you — it is.

It Decreases Bloating

After a meal, I definitely get a food baby as I'm super prone to bloating. I also have acid reflux which doesn't make the bloating issue any better, to be honest. But one of the many benefits of ACV is that it can improve the acid content of your stomach and help with bloating after meals. After a week of shooting the super-acidic vinegar, I can say that my acid reflux was noticeably better. I was still a little bloated (as per ushe), but it was totally reduced and lasted for less time. My stomach was definitely a fan of this magic shot.
Many recommend drinking one tablespoon of ACV mixed with 8 oz. of water before a meal. Others say you should just put the vinegar in your water bottle and sip throughout the day. Either way, if you get self-conscious about bloating, this should help.

It Gives Your Skin a Boost

I have used ACV in face masks before and was aware of the skin benefits. I did not know that it could help your skin from the inside out. The natural health product is an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory agent. This can help restore and balance your skin’s pH and acid mantle, according to Be Well Health and Wellness. While I can't say that taking a shot every morning cleared up my skin right up (I've struggled with acne since I was much younger), I did notice that it looked less dull. I'd venture to say I was almost glowing a bit. This is definitely not a regular occurrence in my life, so I was fairly certain it was thanks to the ACV and I was not disappointed with the result.

Whiter Teeth

BET

I saw that if you swish the shot around in your mouth a bit, it can help to whiten your teeth. The vinegar helps to remove stains, whiten teeth, and kill bacteria in your mouth and gums. I'm always down for an added whiteness to my teeth, so I endured the ACV in my mouth a bit longer (it was NOT pleasant) in hopes of it working. After I swished and gargled the vinegar, I would brush my teeth. I noticed my teeth did get a little whiter, so this was a win!

It May Give You an Energy Boost

NBC

I work odd hours into the night and have trouble keeping my energy up. I typically take vitamins and drink A LOT of coffee. Apple cider vinegar contains potassium and enzymes that can relieve the feeling of tiredness and fatigue. I definitely saw a change during the day when I would usually get into a slump, I was a less tired and had more energy to power through the rest of my workday. I've gotta say, that just might be the best benny — even better than the visual advantages.

I've also heard it helps with a hangover, but I can't speak to that one, yet… Not going to lie, I probably won't continue drinking Apple Cider Vinegar every single day, but I've found that a solid three days a week just might do the trick. If you've been on the fence on whether you should bite the bullet and join the ACV health trend, I've got to say the answer is yes. One bottle is like, ten dollars TOPS and gives you all the benefits of some uber-expensive detox treatments. Why wait? Plus, if you end up hating the taste too much to go on, you can always use it to prevent fruit flies. Win-win.
