Selena Gomez Says She Still Loves Her Ex, but Don’t Worry, It’s Not Bieber

Republic Records Hosts 2015 VMA After Party

Yeah, we see you back there.

When I heard that Selena Gomez had said in a recent interview that she still loves her ex-boyfriend Nick Jonas, I had no opinion about it other than “PHEW, THANK GOD IT'S NOT BIEBER!” This is what it's come to, my friends. This is how low my standards have gotten. My standards for who Selena Gomez dates, that is. How do I feel about the fact that I have standards for who Selena Gomez dates, you ask? Not too great. But that's just my life.

Selena and Nick, who first dated back in 2008 when they were wee Disney stars, were spotted being whispery behind Nick's older brother Joe Jonas at a VMAs after-party last month. So of course the Internet blew up over the sighting, with headlines weirdly choosing to focus on whether or not they're getting back together, rather than why Nick was smoking a cigar. (Seriously, go look at that picture up there. I didn't realize that's what the cool kids were doing these days, but to be fair, I'm not very well-versed in anything the cool kids are doing on any day.)

Then during a recent interview with Capital FM, Selena dissolved into giggles upon hearing that Nick had called her a good kisser. Here's what she had to say about their relationship:

“We were babies! We actually caught up the other day, and it’s really fun to be able to do that. That, to me, was like puppy love. It was very sweet. He’s lovely. I do have a love for him for sure.”

So, she doesn't say she's in love with him, just that she has a love for him. It could be any type of love. It could be the type of love I have for cheesy sandwich crackers. Or maybe the type of love people have for their pets. You never know. But I'm weirdly hoping it's romantic love, because anything to keep Selena away from those poopy pants is a good thing. Sick 2K15! Wait, that sounds gross. Er, Nelena 2K15!
