Ben Affleck And Jennifer Garner Decide To Give Us The Opposite Of A Surprise, Get Divorced

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner are officially getting a divorce. Here's the statement they gave to People yesterday:

“After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time. This will be our only comment on this private, family matter. Thank you for understanding.”

Well, I hate to say I told you so, but… No, wait, actually, I love to say that. I TOLD YOU SO I TOLD YOU SO I TOLD YOU SO. Crushable has been counting down to the Ben and Jennifer divorce for literally years now. Look through either of their tags for evidence. And it hasn't just been us believing anonymous sources portending doom. The proof has kind of been in the pudding for a while now. Have you seen the way these two talk about each other?

Check out this post Alexis wrote more than a year ago highlighting six pieces of evidence that a split was on the horizon, from Ben's weird Oscar speech to Jen basically saying she does all the work as a parent. It's pretty much a given whenever they give an interview that they're going to get some kind of dig about the other person in there. Or how about Jen's not-so-flattering imitation of Ben last year? Individually it might seem like it's all in good fun, but when it happens as often as it did with these two, it starts to look fishy. So is it any surprise that not only are they divorcing, but Us Weekly says they've been in couples therapy for years and almost divorced before?

Well, for the commenters who insisted that we were reading too much into things and that these two were clearly in love and would be 2gether 4ever, I guess it is a surprise. For me, it's kind of been like watching a movie I know the ending to but not knowing how long the runtime is. And I've just been looking at my watch going, “Wow, this movie is way too long. We know what's gonna happen, just get on with it.”
