What You Missed in Pop Culture This MLK Day Weekend
Celebrities don't ever seem to take a break from scandals and drama. But then again, if they did, we'd have nothing to read about! Don't worry though, since you were busy this weekend shopping good deals and binge-watching “The End of the F***ing World” on Netflix, we managed to round up all of the important pop culture stories that you need to know from over the Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend. It was a busy one!
Simone Biles opens up about being sexually assaulted
Simone Biles is the latest gymnast to accuse Larry Nassar of sexual assault. At this time, over 140 gymnasts have also come forward. Her fellow teammates, Gabby Douglas and Aly Raisman have also accused the Team USA doctor.
Simone came forward via her public Instagram account, beginning the post with, “Most of you know me as a happy, giggly and energetic girl. But lately…I've felt a bit broken and the more I try to shut off the voice in my head the louder it screams. I am not afraid to tell my story anymore,” she began. “I too am one of the many survivors that was sexually abused by Larry Nassar. Please believe me when I say it was a lot harder to first speak those words out loud than it is now to put them on paper. There are many reasons that I have been reluctant to share my story, but I know now it is not my fault.” Simone's teammate from the 2016 Olympic Games, Aly, immediately reshared Simone's heartfelt and honest post on her own Instagram, along with a photo of the two of them to show her support for Simone.
Danica Patrick and Aaron Rodgers are dating
Hot new couple alert! This professional racecar driver just confirmed that she's got a new beau — and one we all know pretty well. When asked if she was dating Aaron Rodgers, Danica Patrick confirmed that the rumors were true. She told the Associated Press (via ESPN) that the two are together after meeting in 2012 at the ESPYs. According to Danica, she'd told Aaron back then that she wouldn't root for his team, the Greenbay Packers, but she would root for the quarterback personally. Now, she's retracted that statement, and told AP (via ESPN), “Now I am probably going to cheer for the whole team. Take out the word ‘probably.' Now I'm going to cheer for the whole team.” Cute! We can't wait to see some cute couple-y photos of them on Instagram ASAP!
We got our first look at Jordan Kyle on Shadowhunters
If you've been watching Shadowhunters religiously, then you probably already knew a new character was headed to the world of The Mortal Instruments. Joining the cast of the Freeform show is Chai Hansen as Jordan Kyle.
It was confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con that the book character would be heading to the Freeform show staring Katherine McNamara and Entertainment Weekly reported that Chai would be taking on that role. Those who have read The Mortal Instruments book series knows that Jordan first meets Simon while going by the name Kyle. He invites Simon to live with him and he seems like a super-normal human, someone that Simon could easily become friends with. But what Simon doesn't know is that Kyle is really Jordan Kyle, the ex-boyfriend of Maia (one of Simon's many love interests in the series) and he has a much more nefarious past that Simon could have predicted. There have been a lot of differences between Shadowhunters and the books it's based on, so we can't wait to see what Chai's character is going to do! Season three of Shadowhunters premieres March 20, 2018.
Kylie was not in labor this weekend but might be suffering pregnancy complications
No, Kylie Jenner did not go into labor this weekend. Once Twitter gets even the slightest hint of a rumor, it goes wild. You couldn't log into the app without seeing thousands of tweets saying that the youngest member of the Kardashian-Jenner clan was in labor.
However, RadarOnline.com confirmed that the cosmetics mogul hadn't gone into labor, though she did seek medical treatment at a hospital — thus spurring the labor rumors. The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star has virtually been MIA since it was announced that she was pregnant and many sources “close to Kylie” are saying that she is media silent and hidden from prying eyes as she wants this time to herself to enjoy the milestones of her first pregnancy.
According to RadarOnline, Kylie isn't due until late February, early March. They said that doctors have advised Kylie that a C-section might be the best method of delivery due to some undisclosed complications. We hope the 20-year-old star and her baby are okay!
David Harbour crashed a high school student's senior photos
Stranger Things star David Harbour just won the heart of the internet. We guess that's not entirely true, considering David's been a fan-favorite ever since season two premiered, but he definitely solidified his fans' obsession.
Back in October, California resident and Twitter user Damaris Fregoso tweeted to David, asking how many retweets it would take to get him to come take her senior photos with her. All he needed was a measly 25,000 (which is fairly low in the Twitterverse) and he requested he gets to wear a school sweatshirt and hold a trombone in the photos. Fellow Stranger Things star, Noah Schnapp, rallied behind Damaris and retweeted the tweet, helping her get her goal.
Sure enough, David was true to his word and delivered on his promise last week. He shared the photos on his Instagram with the caption, “Voted most likely to hijack someone’s high school senior photos 24 years later.” Because David is amazing, he took several photos with her. Not only did he get his trombone, he got some more props, including black pom poms. Damaris shared the photos on her personal Instagram and wrote, “Well this is certainly something I didn't think would actually happen! David is such a sweet dude! Even my 5-month-old nephew got in on the action, haha!” Literally, GOALS.
