Vampire Diaries Star Nina Dobrev Is Coming Back To TV!
This is not a drill! We will soon be able to watch Nina Dobrev on our TV screens once again because the actress just landed her first big small screen role since playing Elena Gilbert on The Vampire Diaries! After leaving the series prematurely in 2015 and starring in countless films, such as Flatliners and xXx: Return of Xander Cage, Nina will make her way back to TV on the new CBS comedy, Fam.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Fam revolves around a woman whose dreams of an upstanding life with her new fiancé and his upstanding family are dashed when her younger train-wreck half-sister comes to live with her to escape their train wreck of a father.”
Nina will play the show’s leading lady, Clem, who Deadline describes as “grounded, deeply funny, quick-witted and outspoken.” Clem, who has worked hard to get her life back on track after her messy past, is overjoyed when the love of her life, Jay, proposes. However, when her half-sister Shannon shows up unexpectedly, it threatens her relationship with her fiancé and everyone else’s she’s been lying to – and she’s been far from honest since rebuilding her life.
Based on the description and Nina’s character, Fam seems more like a drama than a comedy, doesn’t it? However, it’ll be interesting to see how the show can make light of a situation like this. Nina’s new role will also be the first time she’ll show off her comedy chops. Her TVD character definitely wasn’t funny, but IRL Nina is known for her upbeat personality and A+ sense of humor! She’s always looking to have a great time and she’s been known to pull the best pranks on her co-stars from time to time.
As of right now, the only other actors who have been cast in the show include Sheryl Lee Ralph, who has appeared in Ray Donavon, as well as Brian Stokes Mitchell, who you might recognize as Rachel Berry’s dad on Glee. The two will play Jay’s very successful parents, Rose and Walt. Actress Odessa Adlon, who recently appeared in new episodes of Nashville, will play Nina’s character’s half-sister Shannon. The roles of Jay and Freddy Banks have not yet been cast.
Though the project is only in the pilot stage, we’re hoping CBS will place a series order. Considering how popular Nina was on TVD, we’re very sure her following will tune in. Also, if the show could get a recognizable name to play her fiancé (hopefully someone who she has as much chemistry with as she did with co-star and ex-boyfriend Ian Somerhalder), then Fam definitely has a shot!
We’ll just have to wait and see! We’re keeping our fingers crossed that the Fam pilot is as promising as it sounds. TBH, we’re also really down to see Nina on TV again!
