We can’t say we didn’t see this news coming, but it’s definitely still heartbreaking. In the same week that his wife, Mackenzie Edwards, announced that she’s expecting the couple’s first child together, Teen Mom OG star Ryan Edwards has been arrested on drug charges — despite the fact that he went to rehab less than a year ago.

According to Radar Online, Ryan was arrested at his home when police entered with a warrant on Tuesday for “petition to revoke,” or breaking his probation for a past simple possession of heroin charge. The Hamilton County Jail confirmed to the site that he was held on a $5,000 bail and spent about seven hours in jail until he was released at 10:15 p.m.

On Teen Mom OG last season, Ryan’s drug use was a huge part of the storyline in the second half of the season, especially when he drove to his wedding with Mackenzie while clearly under the influence of drugs. After the episode aired, he went to a rehab facility for 21 days, and he and his family (including Mackenzie) have insisted that he’s been sober and doing well ever since. In fact, in a post-arrest interview with Radar, Mackenzie even claimed that the charge he was arrested for was something that happened before he went to rehab, so it’s hard to say if he’s using again based on this new arrest alone.

On Tuesday, before Ryan’s arrest, news broke that Mackenzie is pregnant — a possibility that’s come up in conversation a few times on Teen Mom in recent episodes. Even before this, fans were speculating that Ryan might not be sober, and now, it’s even harder to figure out exactly what’s going on when the MTV cameras aren’t following him around. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens on this season’s reunion… and next season, of course. In the meantime, all we can go on is what he and Mackenzie say publicly, and so far, they’re maintaining that everything’s good.

We really hope that Mackenzie’s right and that Ryan’s actually clean and sober and is just paying for his previous behavior… especially now that they have a new baby on the way. After everything they’ve been through in the past year, these two could probably use a break — and we all know their new baby should have two parents who are totally ready to give him or her the care that they need. Newborns definitely aren’t easy!
