Sophia Bush finally addressed the reason why she *needed* to leave Chicago P.D. The actress shocked fans of the show after she left the NBC drama at the end of season 4 without an explanation. Well, we finally have some answers. It turns out, the One Tree Hill alum was absolutely miserable and that making the decision to quit her “dream job” wasn’t easy.

“I don’t have to give everyone the specific break down of exactly why I left until I’m ready to do that. But, the overarching theme for me, was that I landed my dream job,” Sophia told Refinery 29’s “Unstyled” podcast. “I landed this job that, since I was 20 years old and trying to become an actor, I said I wanted. And aspects of it, don’t get me wrong, were wonderful. But, I realized by the end of the second season I couldn’t do that job anymore.”

“How do you quit your dream job,” she asked, before going into detail about how she sat her bosses down in order to explain to them her situation. “It was in the summer between seasons 3 and 4, and I said, ‘Here’s where we are. Here’s everything you’re aware of. Here’s how I’m coming to you today. If something really drastic doesn’t change, I’m leaving at the end of the year.'”

It remains unclear what exactly Sophia wanted to be changed about her working environment, however, something tells us it had something to do with issues regarding equality. She mentions the fact that she told her bosses that she understood “how the business works and how women are treated.”

Following her exit from the show, there were also rumors suggesting that she had issues with a Chicago P.D. co-star. However, she did not mention any of those details during this recent interview with R29. Instead, she only had good things to say about her former Chicago P.D. family. She revealed that despite the love she had for them all, it wasn’t enough for her to stay.

“For me, not to put it on anybody else, but for me, it felt like I was trapped in a burning building. I was just so unhappy and it was my dream job and I was miserable and I had to go,” she continued.

Her words paint quite a picture, don’t they? What could have happened on set that would cause her to feel this way? All we know for sure is that it’s pretty clear that something bad was happening to make her situation so unbearable.

We’re just glad she got out when she did. Now, Sophia has landed an acting and production deal with 20th Century Fox Television, so it won’t be long until we see her back on TV.
