Shameless Star Ethan Cutkosky Arrested For A DUI

By  |

Showtime

Bad news for one of the Gallagher kids this week. According to TMZShameless star Ethan Cutkosky — who plays Carl on the show — found himself behind bars last Wednesday when he was arrested for a DUI in Los Angeles. Not cool, Cutowsky.

Law enforcement told the site that the 18-year-old was pulled over around 10:30 that night after officers caught him driving in both lanes, and that's when he failed sobriety tests. From there, he was taken into custody. Reportedly, the officers smelled marijuana in his car, although toxicology reports haven't come back to confirm or deny that allegation just yet.

And according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department documents obtained by People, it's not looking good. Ethan did admit that he was smoking pot earlier that evening. After being booked into the Burbank County Jail, he was charged with a misdemeanor and released on a $5,000 bail on Thursday morning. Unfortunately, no further updates have been shared at this time. Ethan is due to appear in court on November 29, so worried fans won't be in suspense for long.

Since his arrest, Ethan has been active on both Instagram and Twitter, retweeting fans and promoting Shameless, which had its eighth season premiere earlier this week. He has yet to mention anything that has to do with his arrest, though fans have been tweeting him to ask what's up. Some have been scolding him for driving under the influence, while others are tweeting “free Carl.” It's a mixed bag of emotions at this point.

It's a big week for Ethan outside of this bad news, too. On Wednesday, Showtime announced that Shameless was picked up for a ninth season, which is a pretty big deal… especially since Season 8 just premiered. Considering how obsessed fans have been with the show, which also stars Emmy Rossum and William H. Macy, this news doesn't exactly come as a surprise, as exciting as it is.

Showtime's CEO, David Nevins, said in a statement to TVLine:

The series’ reputation for rich and resonant characters and for deep — and deeply twisted — comedy has drawn not only faithful longtime viewers but a steadily growing audience. And creatively, the season that kicked off this past Sunday is stronger than ever.

So far, there's no word on whether or not Ethan's DUI will have any effect on his future on the show, although Deadline did point out that since this season has already finished taping, Season 8 won't be impacted at all. Hopefully, he stays out of trouble from now on. We'd hate to see anything happen to him or anyone else because of a bad decision — and we certainly can't imagine Shameless Season 9 without Carl.
