Over the past several months, Selena Gomez has been so open about her struggle with lupus and her recent kidney transplant, and now, she's opening up about something else serious that she's been going through. In her cover interview with Harper's Bazaar, Selena spoke out about her depression and anxiety, and the singer's words are so important, especially for anyone who's had to deal with the same things themselves.

Selena's fans already know that she recently completed mental health treatment in an effort to get ahead of her issues before they knocked her down. And now, while talking to Harper's, she revealed that she thinks it's “a battle I'll face for the rest of my life.” But fortunately, that's a fact that she's managed to make peace with.

“I’ve had a lot of issues with depression and anxiety, and I’ve been very vocal about it, but it’s not something I feel I’ll ever overcome,” she told the magazine. “There won’t be a day when I’m like, ‘Here I am in a pretty dress — I won!’”

Anyone who has struggled with their mental health can understand that there's never any real cure to issues like anxiety and depression, and for a lot of people, it's a daily struggle. But despite the fact that it's 2018 and plenty of people go through similar battles to Selena's, it's still a pretty stigmatized topic, which is why it's so important that Selena is bringing it out in the open like this.

She also admitted that this experience of trying to get her health in a good place has impacted the way she approaches her career… and that might be why it has taken her a while to release another album. She said:

I want to make sure I’m healthy. If that’s good, everything else will fall into place. My next album has been forever in the making. When people ask me why, I’m honest about it: It’s because I haven’t been ready. I mean, point-blank, I don’t feel confident enough in where my music is yet. If that takes 10 years, then it takes 10 years. I don’t care. Right now I just want to be super intentional with all of the things I’m doing.

As excited as we are for new music from Selena, obviously, her health is the most important thing, and it's awesome to hear that she's putting herself first in that way. As always, she's setting a great example for her fans that it's not a bad thing to make yourself and your wellness a priority, whether that means taking care of your physical health, your mental health, or both – before worrying about anything else. And when she does finally drop another album, it's definitely going to be worth the wait. When she's ready, so are we.
