Riverdale‘s Lili Reinhart Says Being “Open Sexually” Helped Her Bond with Camila Mendes

Lili Reinhart has blown up since Riverdale premiered in the beginning of 2017, so it only makes sense that she's starting the new year with a bang, too: by covering Cosmopolitan with her costar, Camila Mendes. In their joint interview, Lili revealed that she's “very open sexually,” and that's something that helped her and Camila bond when they first met. Apparently, Camila was actually really surprised that Lili was so willing to discuss something that can be very personal for a lot of people, but their conversations on the topic definitely helped bring them closer together.

“That's something that we bonded about,” Camila revealed. “I didn't initially think you would be willing to talk about sex. And then once we started, I was like, ‘Oh my god!'”

And now, both of the actresses are getting real about sex. While Camila said, “I want to tell [guys], ‘Don't have sex at me – have sex with me.' I want them to understand that it's so much better when we're connected,” Lili was more interested in talking about how her ideas about sex have changed since she lost her virginity.

She told Cosmo:

The idea that sex is going to be the same with everyone—that’s a misconception. That’s how I felt when I lost my virginity—I was like, “So this is sex!” And then you have sex with someone else, and you’re like, “Holy shit— this is so different.” What you want, what feels good to you—it’s all going to change with every partner you have.

This just goes to show how different Lili is from her character, Betty Cooper, who's usually pretty reserved about a lot of things, including sex… well, except for that snake dance she did earlier this season, but that's another conversation for another time. It's refreshing to hear them both open up about sex this way, though, because so many younger fans look up to them and can probably find a lot of reassurance in their words and the way nothing seems to be off-limits for the two gals. And can't we all benefit from making taboo topics like something as normal as sex feel comfortable to talk about with each other?

If you follow Lili on social media — and especially if you read her Tumblr — you already know that she's outspoken about the things that are most important to her, like feminism and fighting back against sexual assault and opening up about sex isn't exactly off-brand for her. Oh, and for the record, Lili's cover is absolutely gorgeous. Proof:

Cosmopolitan

The February issue of Cosmo featuring both Lili and Camila's covers will be in stores January 9, and we can't wait to read their interviews in full. After all, something has to get us through this Riverdale drought until new episodes return January 17, right?
