Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson‘s love story has been the talk of the town for months now – and at least once a week, one of them reminds us how much in love they actually are. After just a month of dating, the couple got engaged and moved in together, as well as cemented their romance with not one, but multiple tattoos in honor of each other. However, most recently Pete revealed that he gifted his fiancée his late father's firefighter badge, which is the most important gesture of all.

In a new photo shared by Pete on Instagram, Ariana can be seen wearing a gold necklace with a pendant of his late father's FDNY badge. As most of you know, Scott Davidson died during the 9/11 terrorist attacks in NYC, which is why this piece of jewelry means a lot to Pete. It features Scott's badge number, “8418,” which both Pete and Ariana have tattooed on their bodies (Pete has the number inked on his left arm and Ariana recently got the number tattooed on the top of her foot).

While most fans thought the gesture was romantic AF and so meaningful (especially because Pete has openly said how hard it was to deal with his father's death), one critic thought he went too far. “No girl should ever wear your dad’s chain,” an IG user commented on the photo. “So disrespectful.”

Pete immediately defended himself, writing that the necklace is one of the most important things he owns and that who he gives it to is none of anyone's business. “For ur information that’s not just some girl. That’s my fiancé,” he fired back. “She’s the greatest person I know. I gave it to her because she has my heart and that is the most precious thing I own. my dad would be so happy and love her so much.”

Ariana later weighed in too, responding directly to Pete: “I love u more than anything.”

Other fans were quick to notice that Pete might have actually regifted this necklace. In December 2017, his ex-girlfriend Cazzie David posted a photo wearing the same one.

It's unclear if Cazzie's necklace is the same exact one since her dress is covering half the pendant, but there's no denying that the two look very much alike. Regardless, we don't think it matters anyway. Even if Pete did give it to Cazzie while they were still together, it doesn't mean it's not important to him. Perhaps, he just wants the woman he's with to wear one of the most important things his dad left him. Who are we to judge? After all, Ariana paid tribute to Pete's father by inking her body, which is more than enough proof that she cares for Pete and his dad's memory.
