Modern Family Star Sarah Hyland Hospitalized Again & Reveals Photo Of Swollen Face
Sarah Hyland has been open about struggling with chronic pain and illness all her life, but on Thursday, June 21, she gave fans a health update they never saw coming. The Modern Family revealed that she was hospitalized after her health took a little turn for the worse. In honor of National Selfie Day, she got real by sharing an up-close snap from her hospital bed.
“Sometimes a selfie is more than just a good angle or feelin cute. This time for #NationalSelfieDay, I’ve decided to share my truth. As painful as it is,” she captioned her Instagram Story alongside a pic that sees her puffy eyes and swollen face. “So here is my face that was torn from work against my will. But I’m very grateful it was. Health should always come first.”
In a second IG Story, Sarah revealed that she had been taken to the hospital on Monday, June 18, adding that her dog, Boo, knew all along that something was wrong.
“Can’t wait to come back to my precious angel princess. She’s perfect and knows exactly what I need at all times,” she wrote alongside the vid of her beloved dog licking her. “This was taken this past Sunday. Day before hospitalization. She was literally telling me to get treatment.”
An insider told Us Weekly that Sarah had been working on the comedy film The Wedding Year, alongside Jenna Dewan and Anna Camp, when she became ill. Though she didn’t disclose what health issues she’s currently suffering from, it was enough to take her away from her work.
The actress has been very candid about her ongoing battle with kidney dysplasia and how it required her to undergo a kidney transplant in 2012. Unfortunately, her health hasn’t been the same ever since. It’s also caused her to have to defend herself against those who think she’s lost too much weight.
“I haven’t had the greatest year,” she wrote in May 2017, after online trolls began body shaming her for being too thin. “Maybe one day I’ll talk about it but for now, I’d like my privacy. I will say that this year has brought a lot of changes and with that, physical changes.”
She went on to say that it’s not easy to look in the mirror and to see herself looking so thin after all the time she’s put into gaining muscle at the gym. But that this is her reality and she’ll do whatever it takes to get her body back. We applauded Sarah’s courage to speak out against body shamers back then and we applaud her now for sharing her story. Get well soon, Sarah!
