Three years after nude photos of Jennifer Lawrence were leaked on the internet, the Oscar-winning actress still feels like it was yesterday. I mean, do you ever really fully recover from something like that? According to Jennifer, she’s “still processing it” even after all these years. During an appearance on The Hollywood Reporter podcast, “Awards Chatter,” she opened up about the scandal, describing the feeling as though she had gotten “gangbanged by the f*cking planet.”

If that doesn’t paint a vivid image in your head, then we don’t know what will. Can you imagine someone deliberately trying to make a quick buck at the expense of your privacy? The thought is sickening, and those same thoughts still haunt Jennifer.

“When the hacking thing happened, it was so unbelievably violating that you can’t even put it into words,” she explained. “When I first found out it was happening, my security reached out to me. It was happening minute-to-minute — it was almost like a ransom situation, where they were releasing new ones every hour or so.” She continued, “There’s not one person in the world that is not capable of seeing these intimate photos of me. You can just be at a barbecue and somebody can just pull them up on their phone. That was a really impossible thing to process.”

Jennifer was one of 30 celebrities who private photos were acquired by a hacker after a breach of Apple’s iCloud. Unfortunately for J.Law, her nude photos were plastered all over the internet. Considering she was entering the peak of her career, this could’ve been a breaking point for her success — and she was very well aware of that. So much so, that she worried about what her fans might think of her.

“I think, like, a year and a half ago, somebody said something to me about how I was ‘a good role model for girls,’ and I had to go into the bathroom and sob because I felt like an imposter,” J-Law said. “I felt like, ‘I can’t believe somebody still feels that way after what happened.’ It’s so many different things to process when you’ve been violated like that.”

As for why she never pursued legal action, well, it’s simple: She didn’t feel like a lawsuit would give her what she needed in order to recover. “None of that was gonna really bring me peace, none of that was gonna bring my nude body back to me and Nic[holas Hoult], the person that they were intended for. It wasn’t gonna bring any of that back,” she said. “I was just interested in healing.”

Heartbreaking, right? To think that the photos are still out there is what makes it even more unfair. Once something hits the web, it’s there forever. Terrifying. Luckily for Jennifer, she has all her success to focus on — and the fact that she can still be her silly self despite it all is inspiring AF.
