Jake Gyllenhaal Could Replace Ben Affleck as Batman & We’re Totally Here for It
Jake Gyllenhaal is rumored to replace Ben Affleck for the Batman solo movie and we've got our fingers crossed that it's true. Just days after the Justice League actor revealed that he might not sign on to the next Batman movie, rumors have been swirling that the gig might go to Jake. You see, actors who play superheroes know that they won't be a superhero for the rest of their careers – and that's a reality that Ben is very aware of. “You don't do it forever, so I want to find a graceful and cool way to segue out of it,” Ben was quoted in USA Today, which opened the floodgates for ideas about who would replace him.
Ben Affleck also has found himself in hot water during the past few months as the sexual assault scandal in Hollywood has surfaced. First after an old recovered video showing the actor groping Hilarie Burton during a TRL interview (he has since apologized). Then more recently, when Ben made some off-kilter comments about more women joining the Justice League while promo-ing their new movie.
We've seen it with Spider-Man (Tobey Macguire, Andrew Garfield, Tom Holland) and Superman (Christopher Reeves, Brandon Routh, Henry Cavill), so it seems perfectly fine to let another actor fill Batman's shoes. Thus, why not ask Jake, who quite frankly, fits the role even better than Ben did in the first place. He's tall, dark and handsome, and if you cover his face, his mouth can absolutely be the center of attention. We also totally see him getting along with all the other Justice League actors like Gal Gadot and Ezra Miller.
Besides that, Jake already has tons of experience with dark movies. He's played in films like Nightcrawler, Prisoners, and Nocturnal Animals. Let's also not to forget to mention that he's an Academy Award nominee so we know his acting chops are A+.
Sadly, we probably won't know if Jake's taking the role for sure until someone who actually works for the franchise is willing to confirm it on-the-record. All we know at this point is that there have been reports that Jake has already had a meeting with director Matt Reeves about potentially taking on the role.
Elsewhere in Hollywood, people are also getting wind that the director has his eyes on someone new – someone that could be Jake. “I’m hesitant to say anything, but I talked to somebody yesterday, and it was a Hollywood producer, who told me who Matt Reeves wants as Batman,” John Campea said on The John Campea Show. “I’ll be honest with you. The name they [gave] me caught me a little bit by surprise. I called somebody else later in the day saying, ‘I heard this. Is there any validity to this?’ and they said, ‘Well, Matt does want him, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to happen. I mean there’s been no movement or anything like that. It doesn’t mean anything is going to happen.'”
But does that really mean that Batffleck is done for good? Considering every Batman movie he's been in has had bad reviews, a change might not be such a bad idea. The possibility of Jake donning the Bat suit is just speculation at this point, but that doesn't mean we don't want it to happen. TBH, we can't picture anyone else better doing it!
