Prince Harry Asked Ed Sheeran to Perform at His & Meghan Markle’s Wedding
Rumor has it Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have booked the most “perfect” wedding singer! Yep, we're talking about the one and only Ed Sheeran. That means there will be not one, but two red-headed hunks at the upcoming royal wedding! According to Entertainment Tonight, the singer has been asked to perform at Prince Harry and Meghan's nuptials in May. Can you imagine Ed singing one of his romantic ballads as the couple shares their first dance?
Ugh, we're jealous already. We're also jealous that Ed scored an invite to the wedding of the year. Just like us, ET‘s royal correspondent thinks Ed is the perfect man for the job.
“Ed Sheeran has yet to confirm but I'm not sure you turn down Prince Harry and Meghan Markle,” Victoria Arbiter noted. “People love his romantic love songs so he's an ideal candidate for that first dance and I think Harry has always enjoyed Ed Sheeran.”
If he does agree to perform, Victoria thinks it'll probably be during the wedding reception and we, too, bet Ed will be the one crooning during Prince Harry and Meghan's first dance. After all, when you book someone like Ed, it would be an absolute waste of his talent not to use him for that special moment.
The 26-year-old singer likely up to the challenge considering he's teased the idea in the past, saying he would surely perform if his schedule permitted him to do so. Though Prince Harry and Ed don't know each other on a super personal level, Ed revealed they did meet once in 2011, way before Prince Harry met Meghan.
“I get asked this all the time like I know the royal family. I've met Harry once!” Ed confessed. “[And] that was in 2011 at his grans' Jubilee, and it was like, ‘Hey.' ‘Hey'… I barely know him!”
Now that the royal wedding planning is in full swing, there was also talk that Elton John might have been given the honor to perform. That would also be a fine choice considering how close Elton was to Prince Harry's late mother Princess Diana. In a perfect world, Elton and Ed duet, as well as ask Beyoncé or Andrea Bocelli to join in on a special rendition of “Perfect.”
In other wedding-related news, Kensington Palace announced on Monday morning that the ceremony will take place at 12 p.m. GMT (7 a.m. ET) on May 19, 2018. Get your DVRs ready because it'll definitely be something you want to tune in to. If it's anything like Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s wedding in 2011, then we're in for a royal treat!
The royal family also revealed the route in which the newlyweds will travel following the ceremony. Prince Harry and Megan will leave Windsor Castle in a carriage in order for people to enjoy the moment with them. “They hope this short journey will provide an opportunity for more people to come together around Windsor and to enjoy the atmosphere of this special day,” a statement read.
So cool! We'll obviously all be watching from the comfort of our own homes, but it's nice that people will be given the opportunity to celebrate the momentous occasion with the couple!
