Ed Sheeran revealed he wrote a James Bond theme song years ago! The singer-songwriter made an appearance on Ireland’s Late Late Show where he told host Ryan Tubridy that he has “a theme tune written for the past three years just in case.” Unfortunately for him, no one from the franchise has asked him, but here’s to hoping they might now that they know it’s written and ready to go.

It’s no surprise that Ed would want to write a song for the iconic series. Tina Turner, Madonna, Paul McCartney, as well as Adele and Sam Smith have all written songs for James Bond. Some of them even went on to win Oscars. Do we blame him for wanting join the 007 family? Not at all, and considering how talented Ed is, it’s the film’s loss if they don’t reach out to him.

When asked about the theme song’s title, Ed declined to answer. “I’m not going to say ’cause someone might steal it,” he quipped before promising that it’s a good one.

However, Ed did reveal that it’s not uncommon for him to write songs in advance. For example, the song “River” with Eminem, was ready before Ed even knew they’d collaborate.

“I recently did a song with one of my all-time heroes, Eminem, and when we did a song together I already had the song planned. ‘Cause I was like ‘If I ever work with Eminem, I have this song,'” he explained. “So it’s the same for Bond, if ever I’m called, I’m like right there you go.”

As of right now, Daniel Craig and the release date (Nov. 8, 2019) are the only two details that have been confirmed in regards to the newest Bond movie. So far, no director, title, or actors have been announced, nor has the theme song been chosen. Therefore, Ed still has a shot!

Aside from talking music, he also took a moment to praise one of his favorite places on Earth.

“I am in love with [Ireland] and the culture and the people and I just really, really like it. I don’t even feel like coming on and doing chat shows and stuff is even work,” he said. “It just feels like you’re hanging out, like you’re just here for a chat.”

There are two things we’re hoping will happen: 1) that Ed gets the James Bond gig and 2) that we one day run into Ed at an Irish pub…
