Less than one week after Demi Lovato was rushed to the hospital for a drug overdose, her friends are breaking their silence over the incident. A lot of Demi’s fans took to social media shortly after reports of her hospitalization and while most shared their love and support, others accused her close friends of enabling her. Now, the singer’s longtime friend and backup dancer, Dani Vitale, has issued a statement asking fans not to blame her for what happened.

According to TMZ, Demi was celebrating a friend and backup dancer’s birthday in West Hollywood before her overdose. She and her friends were allegedly partying all night before paramedics were called. However, when help arrived, “the partygoers were nowhere in sight.” Radar Online later reported that the celebration in question was for Dani, which has led fans to blame her for what happened. But, Dani is clearing up rumors and hoping that fans will stop with the “negativity.”

“I care about Demi just like all of you do. I have not said anything about this situation until now because her recovery has been of the most importance,” Dani wrote in the post, revealing that she was not with Demi when the incident happened, but that she is with her now.

“She means the world to me just as she does to all of you,” she continued, “There is no need for any negativity towards the ones who care about Demi at this time. There is too much of it in this world as it is. I know you’re all feeling lost without her at this moment in time.”

There’s no way for the public to know what happened the day of her reported overdose, and it’s unfair to assume what went down that night. It’s not up to fans to point fingers at anyone. It’s up to them to continue sending her love and support and when she’s ready, she’ll let us know what happened.

One of Demi’s best friends, Matthew Scott Montgomery, also broke his silence on her overdose relapse via Instagram Stories. He revealed how difficult the last few days have been, adding that this year, in general, has been one of the hardest he’s ever experienced.

“I couldn’t figure out what felt weirder — posting or not posting about this,” Scott wrote over the weekend. “I will miss hearing my best friend’s laugh, maybe my favorite sound in the world, in the audience for these final shows as she continues to recover.”

Sources told E! News that Demi is “getting better” after her overdose thanks to all the support she’s getting from her friends, family, and ex-boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama. She will reportedly check herself into a treatment center once she leaves the hospital.

We’re wishing Demi a speedy recovery and, clearly, so are her friends.
