Chrissy Teigen & Kristen Bell Offer to Pay $100,00 Fine If McKayla Maroney Speaks At Larry Nassar’s Hearing
Chrissy Teigen and Kristen Bell, along with others following their lead, have stepped in to defend multiple gold-medal-awarded gymnast McKayla Maroney. The topic came out recently, as nearly 90 women are set to give impact statements against shamed former USA Gymnastics team doctor, Larry Nassar, who has been accused of sexual abuse by over 100 women.
In November 2017, Nassar pleaded guilty to 10 counts of criminal sexual conduct in the first degree. In December 2017, he was sentenced to 60 years in prison, but sentencing for the first seven counts of criminal sexual conduct against him began to take place on January 12 and still continue, which is where his victims are allowed to give statements saying how what he did to them impacted their lives. Many statements have already been released and they are powerful, heartbreaking, and moving to hear. But one of Larry's accusers is not scheduled for her day in court to speak out. McKayla Maroney is currently absent from the victim's roster list after signing a non-disclosure agreement just over a year ago. When Chrissy Teigen found out why she immediately blasted USA Gymnastics on Twitter.
The entire principle of this should be fought – an NDA to stay quiet about this serial monster with over 140 accusers, but I would be absolutely honored to pay this fine for you, McKayla. pic.twitter.com/lsBEgEqZpD

In October 2017, McKayla Maroney opened up on Twitter about the sexual abuse she faced at the hands of Larry Nassar. She said it first began when she was 13 and invited to USA Gymnastics national team training camp. The abuse lasted for seven years until she left gymnastics altogether. McKayla said that he told her she was getting “medically necessary treatment that he had been performing on patients for over 30 years.” Larry Nassar has been accused of assaulting 140 gymnasts, some as young as six years old at the time of the first abuse.
The cause of concern in McKayla's case is that she previously signed an NDA in a private settlement with USA Gymnastics in December 2016, in which she received $1.25 million to keep quiet about her abuse. This part of the NDA is what Chrissy found appalling, along with the fact that a fine would be tacked on if McKayla were to speak out. If McKayla gave a victim statement, she could face a $100,000 fine. Chrissy quickly said she'd be honored to pay that for McKayla. Since then, Kristen Bell has also offered to help out.
I'll 1/3 it with you guys. https://t.co/XasgyGEg6E

Since news broke about the $100,000 fine, USA Gymnastics has come forward to say they would not charge McKayla Maroney if she were to speak at the hearings. “USA Gymnastics has not sought and will not seek any money from McKayla Maroney for her brave statements made in describing her victimization and abuse by Larry Nassar, nor for any victim impact statements she wants to make to Larry Nassar at this hearing or at any subsequent hearings related to his sentencing.”
However, McKayla is suing USA Gymnastics, the U.S. Olympic Committee, and Michigan State University, where Nassar also served, claiming the non-disclosure agreement she signed was illegal. Maybe Chrissy and Kristen can help fund her legal defense for the case? Other Olympic gymnasts who have come out to accuse Larry Nassar are some of McKayla's former teammates, like Gabby Douglas and Aly Raisman, and just this past weekend, gold medalist Simone Biles released a statement on the abuse she suffered at the hands of the team doctor as well. It is unclear if McKayla will speak out against Larry, but her friends, family, and many others stand with her for being so brave in coming forward.
