It’s hard to believe that, in 2017, the pay gap between men and women still exists, but it does — and celebrities are definitely not immune. On Tuesday night, Catt Sadler announced that she’s leaving E! after over ten years with the network because they refuse to pay her as much as her male counterparts at the network.

In a blog post she shared on her official website, Catt explained why Wednesday will be her last day with E!. It’s heartbreaking to hear how she was forced to make the decision to leave a job she loves in order to keep her integrity intact and stand up for what she believes in, but her words are so important if real change in the pay gap is ever going to happen.

According to the E! host, when the time came for her to renew her contract, she found out that a certain man who works for the company (presumably Jason Kennedy) has been making almost double her salary. So she asked E! for what she felt she deserved to be making, and she was denied.

Catt wrote:

How can I operate with integrity and stay on at E if they’re not willing to pay me the same as him? Or at least come close? How can I accept an offer that shows they do not value my contributions and paralleled dedication all these years?  How can I not echo the actions of my heroes and stand for what is right no matter what the cost? How can I remain silent when my rights under the law have been violated?

She wrote that, as a single mother, this is a scary decision for her, but when she was refused a raise she knew she deserved, she had no other choice.

“Countless brave women have come forward this year to speak their truth,” Catt added. “Females refuse to remain silent on issues that matter most because without our voices, how will we invoke lasting change? How can we make it better for the next generation of girls if we do not stand for what is fair and just today?”

Wednesday, E! released the following statement to USA Today in response to Catt’s claims:

E! compensates employees fairly and appropriately based on their roles, regardless of gender. We appreciate Catt Sadler’s many contributions at E! News and wish her all the best following her decision to leave the network.

After all these years, Catt has been a huge part of E!’s programming, from hosting The Daily 10 to then joining E! News. It’s hard to believe that we won’t see her on the red carpet again, but hopefully, E! will take this as a message that serious changes need to be made.

Even though she won’t be a part of E! anymore, there’s no doubt Catt will continue to find success… and hopefully an employer who will pay her what she deserves.
