The Bachelorette’s Peter Kraus Reveals He Suffered from an Eating Disorder
We learned a lot about Bachelorette fan-fave Peter Kraus during Rachel Lindsay‘s starring season. We learned about his hopes for the future, his concerns about reality TV romance and his past failed relationships. But something we had no idea about was his struggle with an eating disorder, something that the Wisconsin trainer only recently decided to open up about.
In a very candid Instagram post shared on Wednesday, the 32-year-old goes into detail about his struggles and how he overcame them after hitting rock bottom. Who would have known that the gorgeous man we so desperately wanted Rachel Lindsay to end up with had such a painful past? The fact that he's sharing his story makes us love him even more.
You might not have known this (if you stalked his Instagram, then you do), but Peter was a model long before he ever auditioned for the Bachelorette. Yep, this gap-toothed hunk modeled for over nine years and while it was a career that took him to so many places and gave him the opportunity to meet so many people, it also had a dark side.
It was during the beginning of his modeling career that his eating disorder developed.
“At the age of 20 I had developed an eating disorder while blindly attempting to keep up with the level of fitness of my fellow models and competitors,” Peter revealed. “For two years I struggled in silence, always trying but never knowing how to compete with my counterparts. In the winter of 2007 I hit rock bottom and decided that it was finally time to take charge of my health and fitness and learn how to do things the right way.”
That's when he enrolled himself in a dietetics program, which landed him his first private training job. Now, he's a successful fitness trainer with a bright future ahead of him. Despite his struggles, Peter is still proud of his modeling career.
“So on this #WorkoutWednesday, I say thank you to a career that taught me so much, that while now retired, is still fun to go back to from time to time to do things the RIGHT way. If it weren’t for hitting ‘rock bottom’ I never would have had this amazing hill of life to climb back up,” he continued.
He also still shares photos of his modeling days from time to time – and for that we thank him!
Peter ended his post by encouraging others to “embrace the sh*t” and not let the issues that pop up take over their lives. “Learn from it, pick your ass up off the floor and get moving forward and upward again. Some times from the darkest places shines the brightest light,” he concluded.
Well said, Peter! Meanwhile, we're still unsure about whether or not Peter will appear on The Bachelor Winter Games. The reality show began filming episodes in Vermont earlier this week – and so far there is no sign of him. We're still hopeful he'll make an appearance, though!
