Colton Underwood is making headlines again, but this time it has nothing to do with last month's drama involving Tia Booth and Bekah Martinez. On last night's episode of The Bachelorette, the 26-year-old dropped yet another truth bomb when he revealed that he's a virgin. His confession shocked Bachelor Nation, including the show's star Becca Kufrin, who abruptly got up and walked away after seemingly being caught off-guard. No one saw his admission coming, however, Becca's reaction is what really made everyone a little uneasy.

Obviously, we know that all Bachelor shows are heavily edited (scripted too), but it was hard to watch Becca react in the way that she did. For starters, her response to his confession was “Really?” which is probably not the nicest thing tell say to someone who just told you they're saving themselves for marriage. Then, she literally got up, left him alone at the table, and spent a cringe-worthy amount of time contemplating whether or not she should give him a rose. The only explanation to her reaction was that it was forced on her by production because no one in their right mind would be upset that a beautiful, sweet man is still a virgin and that he's waiting to meet the “right heart” before he has sex.

Following the awkward moment and the backlash from fans online, Becca defended her reaction on Twitter, claiming that she actually got up to go to the bathroom. Colton also retweeted Becca's message and defended her actions on the episode, adding that there was zero intent to be disrespectful.

Soon after the episode aired, Colton also took to Instagram to explain his story further. In the process, he let it be known there's nothing wrong with being a virgin. Hopefully, Bachelorette contestants Blake and Garrett read the post too since they said that Colton should be sent home because being a virgin is a deal breaker. He didn't though and the looks on their faces when he got back to the hotel was epic.

“On tonight’s episode, I talk about something I typically avoid talking about at all costs, but it was appropriate for me to bring up. It’s something that I don’t talk about very often and something that only a handful of people know. I considered it a gift and a curse for many years but finally have come to terms about standing up for who I am and the details that make me, me,” Colton wrote.

He went on to say that he knows exactly what it's like to feel like you're hiding your truth out of embarrassment or fear of being judged. He said that he was done covering up his truth with lies in order to “fit in” and that's he's learned to embrace the fact that he's different.

“We all have something that we hold close to us and something that makes us unique in our own ways. I ask for respect from everyone I meet moving forward and I’m here to call on everyone that needs that extra motivation to be ‘different' – HERE IT IS. Be who you are. I love you all,” he continued.

I know I’m not the first one to make a joke or make light of a heavy situation… it’s my way to handle certain situations. I love to resort to comedy to cover up topics that I don’t like to get serious about. On tonight’s episode I talk about something I typically avoid talking about at all costs, but it was appropriate for me to bring up. It’s something that I don’t talk about very often and something that only a handful of people know. I considered it a gift and a curse for many years, but finally have come to terms about standing up for who I am and the details that make me, me. Anyone who feels like they are hiding their truth out of embarrassment or fear of being judged… I HAVE BEEN THERE. You are not alone, I have covered up my truth with lies and tried to “fit in” – while I thought fitting in was what I wanted, I’ve recently learned that being different is what I need. We all have something that we hold close to us and something that makes us unique in our own ways. I ask for respect from everyone I meet moving forward and I’m here to call on everyone that needs that extra motivation to be “different” – HERE IT IS. Be who you are. I love you all.

Colton has since received so much love and support from fans who think that his decision to save himself for the right person is such an admirable quality. Ashley Iaconetti chimed in in the comments section (you may remember her virginity was a huge talking point during Chris Soules‘ run as Bachelor) saying, “I used to avoid the conversation just like you. I don't think my dad even knew for sure either before The Bachelor. While I don't think the show has done its best portraying this topic, I have to thank them because now, not only can I speak about it freely, but there are so many people out there that feel more ‘normal' … because of your decision now. You made an impact tonight.” His Bachelorette co-contestants Jason Tartick and Clay Harbor also voiced their support. We love when Bachelor Nation sticks together!
