Ariana Grande Calls Her Relationship With Mac Miller “Toxic” & “Scary”
It seems like there’s much more to the story regarding Ariana Grande and Mac Miller‘s recent split. Less than two weeks after news of their breakup was confirmed, the “No Tears Left to Cry” singer admitted that her relationship with the rapper was very “toxic.” Her revelation comes after Ariana’s rumored new fling with Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson has raised some eyebrows. Some fans seem to think she moved on way too quickly and one person even attempted to blame Mac’s recent car crash and DUI on Ariana. However, the 24-year-old star wasn’t going to let him have the last word, so she responded with a lengthy statement clapping back at his sexist remarks.
It all started when Twitter user Elijah Flint questioned Ariana’s integrity and loyalty to the rapper by saying what happened to Mac after “Grande dumped him” was “the most heartbreaking thing.”
After the tweet went viral, Ariana hit back at his accusations by clearing up a few things. For starters, she slammed the troll for minimizing “female self-respect and self-worth” by saying she should stay in a toxic relationship because Mac wrote an album about her (which isn’t even about her anyway).
She went on to say that she’s not a babysitter or a mother and that no woman in any relationship should have to be. “I have cared for him and tried to support his sobriety & prayed for his balance for years (and always will of course) but shaming/blaming women for a man’s inability to keep his sh*t together is a very major problem,” Ariana wrote.
“Let’s please stop doing that. of course I didn’t share about how hard or scary it was while it was happening but it was. I will continue to pray from the bottom of my heart that he figures it all out and that any other woman in this position does as well,” she ended her message.

Well said, Ariana. How is it fair to blame their breakup and what happened afterward that on her? Mac is an adult who needs to take responsibility for his own actions. His fans should know better, too. Following Ariana’s message, the Twitter user later replied with an apology, writing that he truly hopes Ariana and Mac “get back to living [their] best lives as soon as possible.”
This is actually the first time Ariana has spoken out about problems that occurred during her two-year relationship with Mac, and now it makes a little more sense. Ariana previously blamed their busy schedules for the breakup, but hearing her call the relationship “hard” and “scary” at times is certainly illuminating. It’s pretty clear that his struggle to stay sober was a major issue for them.
We’re glad that Ariana had the courage to stand up for herself and not let people assume the worst in her. We wish them both the best moving forward.
