Would You Wear Muppet Makeup?

Well? Would you?

Perhaps this bears further explanation, because I don’t know about you guys, but the minute I hear the words “Muppet” and “makeup” paired together, I immediately think of Janice. No, not THAT Janice; THIS Janice:

Don’t get me wrong, Janice is a cool chick– but to be honest, I’m not really sure I want my makeup to look like hers. It just seems like it makes her eyes unnecessarily difficult to see out of. And also her lips look kind of like they’re going to eat her face. I’ll pass, thanks.

But that kind of makeup isn’t actually what I’m talking about here. Here’s what’s ACTUALLY going on: Disney, who currently owns the Muppets, has teamed up with nail polish giant OPI to create a custom nail polish collection inspired by Jim Henson’s friendly, floppy buddies. Somehow, this… actually makes a lot of sense. I think. Maybe? Here, take a peek and let me know what you think:

They’re pretty, right? Which is, admittedly, somewhat unexpected for something inspired by the Muppets, but whatever—pretty is pretty. Some of them are normal enough for everyday use and some of them are wacky enough for a big night out. Even better, though, are the names of the shades: In the top row from left to right, we have Animal-istic, Meep-Meep-Meep, Wocka Wocka! Pepe’s Purple Passion, Designer de Better!, and Warm & Fozzie; then on the bottom, there’s Rainbow Connection, Excuse Moi!, Gone Gonzo! Fresh Frog of Bel Air, Divine Swine, and Getting’ Miss Piggy With It!. Can I just say that I love that there’s going to be a nail polish color called Meep-Meep-Meep? Just imagine how that’s going to sound when someone asks you what nail polish you’re wearing:

“Oh, what a great nail color! What’s it called?”

Of course, the Muppets are far from the first pop-culture icons to get their own high-end makeup line; MAC has had great success with both Wonder Woman-inspired cosmetics and products themed around Disney villains. But as much as it kind of makes sense when you think about it, I do have to say that the Muppets are probably one of the more unexpected pop-culture muses to inspire a cosmetics company. Furthermore, one of the draws of pop-culture makeup is usually the neat-o packaging (see: Wonder Woman and Disney Villains, above), but the bottles of Muppet OPI nail polish just look… sort of like regular bottles of OPI nail polish. So I’m not really sure if the whole Muppet theme is going to boost sales at all. Maybe it will, but it’s likely that it won’t, even if the collection’s release is timed to coincide with the release of the first big-screen Muppet movie in over a decade.

Anyway, you can check out the collection here. What do you think, readers?
