The New Royal Baby Has A Name, And It’s Just As Lovely As Can Be

Kate Middleton Prince William and Princess Charlotte leave St Mary's Hospital May 2015

Unless you spent the weekend under a rock with NO ROYALZ ALLOWED, you know by now that Kate Middleton gave birth to a little princess on Saturday. She and Prince William left the hospital looking smiley and showing off their newborn daughter, and of course Kate's hair looked amazing as usual. But we still didn't know what name the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had chosen. Favorites included Alice and Charlotte, and as it turns out, one of those was right on target.

Kensington Palace announced the baby's name this morning, so here is her title in full:

Her Royal Highness Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge

Aww, is that a lovely name or what? It pays tribute to both Charlotte's late grandmother Princess Diana, as well as her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II. And it might even pay tribute to her grandfather, Prince Charles, if that's where Charlotte comes from. Either way it's close enough that I'm rolling with it.

Here's Kensington Palace's official Twitter announcement of the name:

Charlotte is fourth in line to the throne after Charles, William and Prince George, her big brother who is about to turn two years old this summer. If his cuteness is any indication, Princess Charlotte will be utterly adorable. I can't wait for the family portraits and the christening outfit and the wittle winter sweaters and AHHH ROYAL BABY ROYAL BABY ANOTHER ROYAL BABY I'M SO EXCITED!
