The Daily WTF: New York State Senator ‘Outraged’ Lil’ Wayne Doesn’t Like New York

By  |

New York State Senator Malcolm Smith is “outraged,” you guys. Absolutely, positively incensed! Is it about Todd Akin‘s “legitimate rape” comment? Joe Biden‘s “put y'all back in chains” gaffe? Or the fact that our country could be taken over by crazy science-haters who think poor children should be made to work as janitors on the private jets of the wealthy? Why, no. It's because one famous American rapper out of, oh, let's see…all of them, just plain doesn't like New York City.

“Flat out: I don't like New York,” were Weezy's exact words. As a committed Brooklynite, I'm not offended, because New York is not for everyone and he's entitled to his opinion. More for me! And judging from his recent legal troubles here, it's probably smart for him to GTFO anyway. However, State Senator Malcolm Smith was so pissed off he took some time out from his busy schedule to release this statement to MTV News:

“New York City is the birthplace of the Hip Hop music movement. Millions of New Yorkers listen to his music every day. His comments outraged his local fans and residents. The group today will be demanding an apology of the hip hop star. Lil Wayne has had misfortune in New York with recent gun charges and a jail sentence.”

Given our current political climate, I can think of a million things Senator Smith's time would be better spent denouncing. But if he insists on talking about Lil' Wayne rather than healthcare, jobs, or reproductive rights, he could at least go after his criminal record, bad tattoos, or the way he talks about women. Then again, I guess those issues can wait until it's an election year. OH WAIT.
