Crushable Quotable: Joe Manganiello Wants His Oscars ‘In Memoriam’ Clip To Be The Penis Pump Scene From Magic Mike

Joe Manganiello Magic Mike Oscars In Memoriam penis pump best quotes funnyI feel like Joe Manganiello is like that guy you have a bunch of classes with in college but it's not until after graduation that you realize how damn funny he is. Except, in an acting capacity.

We've caught him in memorable roles on How I Met Your Mother and One Tree Hill over the years, but once he joined the cast of True Blood in 2010, he seemed kind of locked into the role of the strong-and-silent werewolf Alcide. I confess that I forgot about how funny he was as the beefy Brad on HIMYM and regarded him just as a pretty guy who was often shirtless.

Then came Magic Mike. Although some critics have complained that Joe and Matt Bomer were just pretty background scenery for the three-way alpha-male battle of Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, and Matthew McConaughey, being in the movie has allowed Joe to get back in touch with his comedic side. His character's name alone, Big Dick Richie, speaks to the fact that these strippers cultivate and commit to their on-stage identities.

The same goes for the actor himself! EW just published this massive feature where they sat down with Channing, both Matthews, and Joe… and it's hilarious. You can really see the rapport these guys have from when they bonded on-set. And while the whole thing is worth the read, it's Joe who just steals it with the best quotes. This guy is fucking hilarious.

How he almost didn't take the role:

“I was shooting [What to Expect When You're Expecting] in Atlanta with Chris Rock when this script came in. And I was like, ‘Should I do it?' And he's like, ‘Ooh…male strippers, I don't know.' And I was like, ‘If I do this movie, guys are going to hate my guts.' And Chris Rock is like, ‘Motherf—er, guys are gonna hate your guts anyway. Brad Pitt spent 15 years with his shirt off, he's doing just fine.'”

On his most notorious scene:

“[Now] I have the footage that I want played at the Oscars' ‘In Memoriam' when I die: either the scene where I was painted gold, or the penis pump [scene].”

If that really were his dick in the pump — which he coyly hints it could or couldn't be — it'd be interesting if it just came and went without the same fanfare for Michael Fassbender‘s member in Shame.

On filming his first dance:

“There's that moment where you come off the stage for the first time and you're sitting alone backstage in your thong, sweating, basically coming out of a trance, thinking, ‘What did I just do?' It's like waking up out of a blackout covered in blood. You're like, ‘What just happened? Can I go to jail for this?'”

Also, his first “acting” role was playing Captain Morgan at a bar. Please, can Joe's agent book him more comedy roles? Because viewers deserve to see more of this guy's funny side and not just his chest.
