Happy 28th birthday to Zac Hanson! In case you're not well-versed in which Hanson brother is which, he's the youngest of the three musical brothers, pictured in the middle of the group in the photo above. His birthday got me thinking about Hanson in general. And what do you think of when you think of Hanson? Besides the fact that they put “MMMBop” in our heads and left it there for over fifteen years. You think of their long luscious hair, of course! That style really suited them back in the day.

That got me to daydreaming about other famous men who can really rock a long hairstyle. In fact, a lot of them actually look better with longer hair, or at least have worn their hair like that for so long that anything else would look unnatural. I personally tend to be attracted to shorter-haired guys in general, and I've been known to yell at pictures of long, scraggly-haired celebrities that they need a haircut (cough, Brad Pitt, cough) while I hypocritically sit on my couch rocking my own unbrushed tresses. But there are some guys who I must admit really do it for me with the longer ‘dos. So here I present twelve Hollywood guys who look better with long hair.

1. Fabio

This guy's a classic. Fabio is synonymous with long hair, as well as the way it dances in the wind on romance novel covers. Fabio getting a haircut would be like Felicity getting a haircut. There would be rioting in the streets and his hairdresser would be arrested for crimes against humanity. That's what happened when Felicity cut her hair, right?

2. Shaun White

Shaun looks great with short hair as well, but there's something about his willingness to rock that set of cascading curls that's appealing. And I'm sure it's a great way to keep warm while he's snowboarding, so who could argue with practicality? Plus, as a fellow redhead, I appreciate that he embraces the ginge, even allowing it to extend to his beard.

3. Matthew Mosshart

I first heard about this guy when he got engaged to Kelly Osbourne, and when I glimpsed a photo of them together my first thought was “Whoa, hair!” There's a lot of it. Matthew has a gorgeous face that I'm sure would look good with any hairstyle, but the more I look at him like this the more I like it. It's just so voluminous and wild.

4. Jared Leto

Let's face it. Most of the time when I look at this guy I'm busy being hypnotized by those piercing blue eyes, but once I pull myself back to reality I find that messy ombre rocker hair very sexy. I also fell in love with his shoulder-length '90s style when I binge-watched My So-Called Life in college. It suits the kind of guy who gets severed ears in the mail.

5. Heath Ledger

Heath always looked handsome (and even with the Joker makeup you could tell a pretty face was under there), but I'm really partial to his more scraggly looks. I see him in 10 Things I Hate About You and completely melt. Kat may have said she hated the way he cut his hair, but we all know that was a lie.

6. Lenny Kravitz

Lenny Kravitz is supposed to have long dreads. And he's supposed to whip them back and forth Willow Smith-style while playing the electric guitar. It's just, like, the law. An awesome afro is also acceptable. The short style he sports in The Hunger Games? Meh, that's okay too, but it doesn't scream “Lenny Kravitz!!!” at me like this style does.

7. Orlando Bloom

I love me some Orlando Bloom in general, and I am quite the fan of his darker, shorter looks. But he'll always be Legolas Greeleaf for me. In theory, long straight blond hair with braids on a man should not be attractive to me, but put it on Orlando Bloom's head and have him give that Elven stare, and I swoon.

8. Johnny Depp

Long hair, kooky glasses and an oversized hat is pretty much Johnny's go-to look, day or night, and I must say I'm very into it. He can change it up as much as he wants for movie roles (and please do change it up, Johnny), but in real life I expect this style. Anything else just doesn't feel right.

9. Jason Momoa

His long ponytail and fancy beard are weirdly hot as Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones, but I'm really into Jason in his off-time, when he lets his wild tresses free. I've seen him with short hair, and it's totally sexy, but I like the long hair better. It makes him look like he could carry a boulder on his back for miles.

10. Russell Brand

Ugh, this guy. He always looks smelly and I could do without all the sexual oversharing, but even I can admit anything besides this style on him would just look weird. Watch this video of him with short hair and try to imagine that style now. I don't think my brain is capable of it.

11. Brendan Fraser

I fell in love with Brendan when he played George of the Jungle, and even though he also  looked dashing in The Mummy, it can't quite compare to his wilderness man style. Side note: Where'd he go?

12. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau

I could pretty much put everyone from Game of Thrones on this list. And most of the guys from Lord of the Rings, for that matter. Nikolaj has that perfect Disney prince look going for him, and the shoulder-length style really suits it, even in real life. He's got that sexy floppy-haired look that Leonardo DiCaprio rocked back in the day but would look absolutely terrible on Leonardo DiCaprio today. It's a conundrum.
