August is winding down and so is summer. As sad as it's going to be to say goodbye to tanned skin and sundresses, something even better is coming: fall. It's basically an unwritten rule that every girl must be ~ obsessed ~ with fall. Not that there's anything wrong with loving the most beautiful, cozy time of the year. Fall has it all: perfect weather, the best food, and two of the most important holidays of the year. Keep reading for all the amazing reasons to look forward to fall.
1. The foliage
If you're lucky enough to live in a part of the world where the leave change colors then you know how beautiful it is. There is nothing quite as Instagram-ready as a forest on a fall day – definitely no filter needed. Red-orange leaves falling to the ground as the wind rustles the branches. What could be more serene?
2. Pumpkin Spice Everything
With the return of fall comes the return of the pumpkin spice latte. YAS. Dunkin Donuts is the first to bring their PSL back, launching the fall drink on August 28th. PSL's aren't the only pumpkin spiced food coming back – or even the best. Have you tried pumpkin spice bread?!
3. Sweater and Bootie Season
The blistering heat of the summer is finally almost behind us. That means it's time to dig out your comfiest sweaters and cutest booties to embrace the upcoming cool weather. Plus, new seasons always mean shopping. How else are you going to nail all the new fall trends?
4. Your Fave TV Shows All Return
While summer TV definitely has its ups (hello, Game of Thrones) there's nothing like the goldmine of television that comes back in the fall. All the new shows and returning faves give you plenty to watch when you start spending more time indoors. While plenty of new shows don't live to see another fall, you never know when you could find your next TV obsession. This Is Us did premiere last fall, after all, and it was an instant classic.
5. Cold enough to wear pants = less time shaving your legs
Let's be honest – shaving is the worst. Now that it's almost time for long pants and leggings again, who will even know if you miss a spot while shaving? Or better yet, if you forego shaving your legs altogether!
Razors are hella expensive for women, so really this is a smart financial decision. Besides, shaving our legs is just a social norm – not a medical necessity. So you do you any time of the year.
Cool nights watching football games are back! Sure, we may have no idea what's going on half the time but that doesn't make it any less fun. You don't have to be a football superfan to have a good time with friends and family eating tons of food and cheering on your favorite team. Football being back is also synonymous with tailgating being back and that's always a good time.
7. You can shut the AC off and give your electric bill a break
Us! We are! Surviving the summer without the AC constantly blasting is almost impossible. But soon it'll be time to open all the windows and let fresh air back into your home. Not only is this way more refreshing but it takes the strain off your electric bill. Because seriously, paying for air is the worst.
Arguably the best holiday, Halloween is right around the corner. That means Halloween parties, crazy costumes, and awesome decorations are coming too. Halloween has limitless activity potential. Crafting costumes, carving pumpkins, creating creepy, crawly desserts for parties. Halloween is also the holiday with the greatest movies. Hocus Pocus on repeat forever.
9. Fall food
There is no better time of the year for food than the fall. Soups, pies, and stews are just some of the autumn's best offerings. Homestyle, cozy dining is the norm in the fall. Rich meals full of flavor overtake the ice cream and grilled meats of the summer. Dishes can be prepared with tons of seasonal fruits and veggies that are at their best in the fall. Pumpkins, squash, sweet potatoes, apples – I could go on for hours about the best fall produce.
Speaking of fall food, what holiday's better for foodies than Thanksgiving? All the best autumnal dishes in one place is like a dream come true. And there's the added bonus of bringing your whole family together for the meal. Time with your loved ones and all the pie you can eat? Sign me up!
11. Outside activities
Who says the summer is the ultimate outdoors season? There are so many activities you can only do outside in the cooler months. Corn mazes, apple picking, and hayrides are just a few of the things that should be on your fall bucket list.
Walt Disney Pictures
Yes, there are candles available year-round – but who wants to light a candle when it's hot out?! Fall is the ultimate time to splurge at Bath & Body Works. Nothing makes a home feel cozier than lighting a candle and filling the air with warm, spicy scents. It's also a great way to bring the fragrance of fall into your home if you don't live in a part of the world that gets a traditional autumn season.
13. Less humidity
There are sooooo many benefits to cooler weather. First off, less humidity means less frizz and tamer hair. The fall is your hair's time to shine, literally. The crisp air also means no more sticking to your clothes, furniture, or anything else because of sticky, icky sweat. A hot day at the beach is fun and all but I'll take comfortable weather over that any day, please and thank you.
14. Bathing suit season is over
No more dieting, watching every last thing you eat and trying to attain that perfect beach bod. Now that you're going to be living in oversized sweaters and leggings, bring on the pie! Obviously, everything is better in moderation but fall is the perfect time for a little indulgence. With some of the richest foods and delicious desserts, how could you resist?
15. Cuffing season is almost upon us
You played the field all summer and indulged in a few summer flings. But fall is the time for cozying up to a special someone in the cooler months. Now's the time to settle into something more serious. Having someone to watch scary movies, pick apples, and create the ultimate couples costume with is the best. Who wants to spend the most beautiful time of the year along? No one!
16. Christmas is coming
Fall is amazing but if we're being honest, the best thing about the season is that it means winter is coming aka CHRISTMAS! Christmas time is the ultimate two months of the year (oh, y'all don't put your Christmas tree up on November 1st, too?). If the twinkling lights and Christmas music everywhere wasn't enough there's also always crazy sales just about everywhere. You'll already be shopping for your loved ones Christmas presents, so what's the harm in treating yourself, too?
