Emma Stone Thinks It’s ‘Hilarious’ Vogue Named Her Best Dressed, As She Does Not Dress Herself

Best dressed lists are silly. The reason they are silly is that 99.9% of all famous people have people called “stylists” whom they pay to pick out their clothes for them, to whom the credit really belongs. But nobody outside the fashion industry wants to buy a magazine featuring a “best stylist” list consisting of people they've never heard of, so we continue this charade of looking at pretty celebrities wearing pretty dresses and pretending they played any part in putting together those outfits themselves.

At least, until Emma Stone comes along and drops a dose of reality on us.  In the February issue of Glamour UK, the ever lovely Ms. Stone comments thusly on the fact that Vogue named her the “best dressed” person of 2012:

“That was hilarious. I mean, I have a stylist, and she’s the voice of reason behind anything I’ve worn on the red carpet over the past few years. She knows that I won’t dress like a fairy princess, wear a lot of glitter or anything that makes me look like a Victorian doll. If I could wear those things and not look like Dakota Fanning when she was eight, maybe, but I just don’t look good in them.”

So modest and charming, that Emma Stone! I think she should give herself a little more credit, though. Refusing to wear a ton of glitter or dress like a fairy princess is a skill that many famous women have yet to master. Just look at Katy Perry.

She also talks a bit about her body image as a teen, yet more proof that pretty much every woman goes through some weirdness with this:

“[For an audition for a beach scene] we had to line up in bikinis in front of a bunch of middle-aged men, which was the worst. I literally had the body of a ten-year-old back then. But the most horrific thing was that I wasn’t acting: I was just standing there in a bikini. I assume that’s what Bar Refaeli feels like, but then I’m not a Sports Illustrated supermodel.”

So the next time you wish your body looked a little bit more like a ten-year-old's, remember that the grass is always greener. Thanks, Emma Stone!
