Are You Being Safe Online?
Among 1,000 students polled by Common Sense Media, the survey revealed that teenagers are not practicing healthy cyber behavior. One in 10 teens have posted a nude or a semi nude picture of themselves on a website, 39% have posted something they later regretted, 25% have made a profile with a made up identity, and 37% have used the site to make fun of the people.
Even though some of these offenses may not seem like a big deal, teens tend to forget that everything that goes up on the web is permanent, whether you hit that "delete" button or not.
"We've got to stop kidding ourselves about this," said James Steyer, founder of Common Sense Media. "There are enormous consequences from inappropriate behavior online."
