Are You A Fan of Abercrombie & Fitch?
Abercrombie & Fitch is not new to lawsuits. In the past they settled a discriminatory employment practices suit and forked over $40 million and now they're facing a new batch of legal woes.
When Riam Dean was hired by the clothing company, they equipped her with a 45 page handbook on their "Look Policy." Because Riam has a prosthetic arm, the store made her buy a cardigan to wear over her arm during her shifts. But when someone from A&F's "visual team" visited the store, they demanded that she take her cardigan off. Her manager then told her to work in the stockroom instead of on the floor.
"I had never experienced prejudice like that before and it made me feel utterly worthless," Riam says. "I telephoned the company's head office where a member of staff asked whether I was willing to work in the stockroom until the winter uniform arrived. That was the final straw. I just couldn't go back."
Riam is now suing Abercrombie & Fitch for discrimination and seeking $40,000 in damages.
