Is the Recession Affecting Your Prom Spending?

Going to prom can be pricey, especially after tallying up the cost of the dress, limo, hairdresser, and tickets. Now that money is tight for many families, prom is becoming difficult to finance, but parents still understand how important it is for their daughter or son to attend the big event.

"Girls are going to prom no matter what," Elia Rubinstein, owner of a dress shop in NY, tells the NY Times. "They're going to prom, and trust me, a lot of the girls will not compromise. They will have an aunt pay for it, a godmother, a friend."

Hearst surveyed 2,811 teenagers nationwide and in a study released on March 30 found that 65 percent said they would not cut back on spending on prom gowns because of the recession.
