Is Facebook Making You Fail?

Are those frequent status updates and writing notes on your friends' walls the reason behind your slipping grades? Aryn Karpinski of Ohio University surveyed a group of college students and found that Fbook might be a culprit. Students who use Facebook had an average GPA of 3.0 to 3.5 where as non-users averaged 3.5 to 4.0. Also, Facebook users studied an average of one to five hours a week, whereas the students who don't use the site studied 11 to 15 hours a week.

"I'm just saying that there's some kind of relationship there, and there's many third variables that need to be studied," Aryn says. The study found that students who work longer hours at their jobs use Facebook less, and those who are more involved in extracurricular activities are more active on the social networking site.
