Should Teachers Text Parents Progress Reports?

Were you disruptive in class today? Didn't do your homework? You might have gotten away with this in the past, but parents don't want to be kept in the dark anymore.

A recent survey polled 1,493 parents and found that 68 percent of the parents would like to receive more frequent progress reports via text messages or emails. Out of the surveyed parents, 15 percent were given monthly progress reports and 85 percent received quarterly reports. 8 out of the 10 parents said they wanted more frequent progress reports from the school.

Tanya Byron, clinical psychologist and parenting expert, says, "Using a variety of digital platforms, such as the internet and text, will enable schools and parents to have a greater collaborative relationship, which can only benefit each child."
