Do your parents let you drink?
A recent poll in Australia found that half of parents allow teens to drink under supervision. It also revealed that wealthy families are more likely to encourage parental-supervised drinking.
Parents feel safer and think drinking is "harmless" when teens are supervised, and feel it's better for them to do it under parental watch rather than on their own.
"Some parents may think this is harmless and see this approach as a way to teach their teenage children about socially responsible drinking," says chief medical officer of Australia, Dr. Christine Bennett. "But we want parents to understand that early exposure may actually be doing their teenagers damage."
