Is Wii Fit a Suitable Replacement for P.E.?
In this day and age, kids and teens spend hours a day in front of digital screens, whether catching up on primetime TV or chatting on Facebook. But should Physical Education classes jump on the digital bandwagon and become computerized, too?
Nassau, a Long Island, New York newspaper, is reporting that more than half of gym teachers around the country will use some sort of technology or digital systems like Playstation 2 or the Wii as part of their P.E. curriculums this year. These computerized workouts will replace regular sports.
According to a recent study at the Research Institute for Sport and Exercise Sciences, playing a game like Wii Fit doesn't provide the recommended daily amount of physical activity that kids and teens should be getting.
