Get Pumped for Prom!

To keep off your mind off of the dragginggg days and nights until prom, pop in a classic movie to keep you company. Anything with Audrey Hepburn is sure to put you in a prom-y mood, but I particularly recommend such films as the ever-inspirational Breakfast at Tiffany's or the romantic comedy, Roman Holiday. If you really want to prowl the archives, Pandora's Box is a silent film from the Roaring 20's featuring jazz baby, Louise Brooks. I definitely suggest checking that one out if you're looking to do anything flapper-esque, or even just red lips (which is what I'm planning on!). Sultry screen goddess Elizabeth Taylor brings another siren of lore to life in Cleopatra, and the decadent jewelry and costumes featured will definitely fill your thoughts with bright colors and bold jewels.

In the category of more modern films, drop by your local Blockbuster to rent Australia, in which the ever-elegant Nichole Kidman shines across from hottie Hugh Jackman. For a touch of the more exotic, don't hesitant to push play on Memoirs of a Geisha for a window into the stunning and fragile world of Japanese geisha.

While you wait for prom, and definitely while you spend hours in preparation at the salon and in front of the mirror, make a playlist that will keep you on your toes. Here are some of my faves:

"Somebody Told Me" by The Killers
"Banquet" by Bloc Party
"Scissor Sisters" by Kiss You Off
"Bang Bang" by Lady Sovereign
"Grace Kelly" by Mica
"Love is a Battlefield" by Pat Benatar
"Hong Kong Garden" by Siouxsie and the Banshees
"Speakerphone" by Kylie Minogue
"Material Girl" by Madonna (a total classic!)
"Kids" by MGMT
"Heart of Glass" by Blondie

Let me know what you think of my movie and song suggestions, and share some of your own! And keep counting down on the calendar, because prom is moving into the fast lane!

Stay stylish!
