Watching This Woman Dance With Her Doctors To Beyonce Before Surgery Will Make You Want To Bust A Move

Beyonce Dancing Grown Woman

In a world filled with so much depressing news, it's sometimes nice to take a break from the bleak and watch something that's straight up uplifting. And by bleak, I mean anything and everything that has to do with Justin Bieber right now. What IS going on in that head of his right now? I have a feeling that if we took a peek inside, we would just see a monkey in a spacesuit holding up a “help” sign floating around in there. But enough about Bieber and more about this Beyonce dance party that I want to share with you.

Two days ago Deborah Cohan went to the hospital to get a double mastectomy, a serious surgery that no one chooses to have for fun. But rather than shuffle in to the operating room with her head down, she decided to throw herself a flash mob with the doctors and nurses. The song she chose to blast while making everyone dance with her? Beyonce's “Bodied.” I'm not only impressed with her dance skills, but also with her amazingly positive attitude. If she wasn't wearing a hospital gown (and pulling it off wonderfully, I must add), I would assume that she was out dancing with her friends.

On her Caring Bridge page, she asked her friends to throw their own Beyonce dance parties and share them with her.

I will be dancing in my little hospital gown and bouffant cap in the Mt. Zion operating room with the surgical and anesthesia teams. My fantasy is for you to play the song (found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RioOJ7dZxuw) and dance wherever you happen to be (in the kitchen, the carwash, subway platform [Dan!], classroom, Labor and Delivery unit, wherever!) — ideally at 7:30am but really anytime Tuesday. It would be extra remarkable if you could send me a photo (or, better yet, a short video segment) of you dancing… I have visions of a healing video montage. Nothing brings me greater joy than catalyzing others to dance, move, be in their bodies. Are you with me people?

As her new biggest fan, I wish her a safe and speedy recovery from her surgery. I also wish for myself that I face any of my life challenges with a tenth of her positivity. Fine, I also wish I could dance. In general.
