Why It’s Time To Finally Cancel The Office
Lots of changes are happening now behind the scenes of The Office that will be just as detrimental to the show as Michael Scott's departure last year — and that's why it's time to finally cancel the show. Put it out of its misery, let its talented actors move on to better projects and help its former fans feel less guilty about removing it from their DVR list.
The latest news from the set reports that showrunner Paul Lieberstein, who also plays Toby Flenderson on the show, is leaving to work on the Dwight Schrute spin-off. Yes, the Dwight Schrute spin-off. Because no one remembers the hard lesson we learned from the quickly canceled Friends spin-off Joey — ridiculous characters are funny in small doses and not 30 minute comedies. It makes them go from entertaining supporting characters to incredibly annoying main characters.
So yes not only is Paul Lieberstein leaving the show, but Rainn Wilson is also potentially leaving if his spin-off gets picked up. James Spader, who played the slightly creepy Robert California this season, asked to bow out for the 9th season and up-and-coming superstar Mindy Kaling will also be leaving if her new show on Fox does well.
While the show could easily continue on without Robert California, it can't continue without Dwight Schrute and Kelly Kapoor. And there's no real reason it should try. These are all signs that it's time to call it quits and cancel the show.
