It’s inevitable with all the excitement around the Oscars and the need for everyone and anyone to comment on them, that unfortunate mistakes will be made on social media. Last night was no exception and, boy, was it awkward. During the red carpet before the show, beauty advice and product review site Total Beauty tweeted out a picture of Whoopi Goldberg posing in an off the shoulder black dress which showed off her large tattoo. To accompany the photo of Whoopi, Total Beauty wrote, “We had no idea @Oprah was #tatted, and we love it…” Yep, confusing Whoopi and Oprah Winfrey on Hollywood’s biggest night is probably not the best way to get some likes.

While the tweet stayed up longer than it should have, Total Beauty eventually realized their mistake and deleted it. The company quickly issued an apology saying it was their “error, and there are no excuses”. They also announced they would be making donations to Whoopi and Oprah’s charities of choice.

While we don’t know how Whoopi felt about the whole thing, we got Oprah’s reaction courtesy of her friend Gayle King. She posted a picture on Instagram of Oprah looking at the tweet saying,”@Oprah & favorite daughter watching #Oscars & seeing @totalbeautyeditors snafu! We all love @whoopigoldberg but we don’t all look alike Jeeeze!”

So important lesson kids, think before your tweet, especially when the almighty Oprah is involved.
